ITSSI President elect Ms Alice Alisae Aote’e pledged her executive’s commitment to developing programs and activities around the Strategic Plan 2020-23 adopted at the society’s AGM held on March 11 2021.
Ms Aote’e was elected as president from a field of 3 candidates which was attended by members at the Solomon Islands Government ICT Service conference center as well as virtually online.
Ms Aote’e succeeds Marlon Houkarawa who served for 8 years at the helm of the society.
Mr Houkarawa oversaw the society’s registration in 2013 and served as its interim President until it was launched in 2016. In 2018, Mr Houkarawa was elected at the society’s first AGM and served 1 term.
When speaking after her election, Ms Aote’e acknowledged Mr Houkarawa’s exemplary leadership and welcomed his commitment to supporting her executive.
She acknowledged the strategic plan as one of the previous executive’s achievement.
“The strategic plan is critical to our plans to maintain the reputation of our society. We will continue to work with our stakeholders to move things forward and upwards in the IT industry.”
Ms Aote’e is the IT Coordinator at Solomon Water and has been a long time valued active member of the society since its inception. She served as Secretary in the previous executive and brings with her a wealth of experience.
Besides ITSSI, Ms Aote’e is also one of the founding members of Women in IT Solomon Islands, WITSI - a strategic and valued partner of ITSSI. WITSI continues to advocate for participation of women and girls in IT while raising awareness on IT as a career. She also serves as its interim President.
Ms Aote’e is an alunmi of King George Sixth NSS and earned her undergraduate degree at the University of the South Pacific in Suva, Fiji.
She started her career in the public service at the Ministry of Commerce before moving to Solomon Water.
