ITSSI has elected a new executive to lead the society for the next three years. The interim committee called for a Special General Meeting specifically to elect the executive. The elections were hosted at the Ministry of Labour and Commerce conference room on February 15th 2018 and was chaired by interim president Marlon Houkarawa. About 20 members of the society turned up for the meeting where the constitution was adopted and elections held immediately after.
Interim President Marlon Houkarawa was returned as President while Gordon Denty was elected as Vice President. Other members of the executive saw most of the members of the interim executive returned. Alice Alisae Aote'e and Suzanne Moli Orudiana were elected as secretaries while Illa Tura and Don Fakarii were elected Treasurers.
Other ordinary members of the executive were John Wanofafia, Christina Kuper Wini and Phillip Valea.
President Houkarawa expressed his appreciation to all the members for attending and said his executive was going to meet as soon as practically possible to start working on important matters. "One of our immediate priorities is to begin the process of examining the constitution again. For that we will invite all members to provide comments so that we can have a strong, robust constitution that guides us well into the future."
Other members of the society expressed their joy in finally seeing the society firmly established with an executive that was chosen by members. "This is a milestone, a historic event for us." Others spoke of the long and difficult journey that the society had taken until today.
The constitution allows for 3 year terms after which a new executive can be elected again in the Annual General Meeting.
