Introduction
An idea was born after the successful hosting of the 2007 PacINET annual conference in Honiara, Solomon Islands. PacINET is one of the largest and most active Internet Society Chapters in the Asia Pacific region that represents the interests of users in the Oceania Pacific region. It focuses on local issues and developments in the Pacific region, and seeks to provide impartial advice to governments and the public on Internet-related matters that are relevant to Pacific Island people.
Active discussions were conducted amongst our local Information Technology (IT) professionals on the concept of creating such a similar but local body to represent the interests of users within the country. After years of discussions and meetings, ITSSI was conceived in 2015 and registered under the Company Haus as charitable body in pursuant to section 6 of the Charitable Trusts Act.
Vision
The ultimate vision of ITSSI is to represent the interests of our local users and strive to promote the development of human resources and enhance the level of the IT industry within the country.
Composition
ITSSI is an association of national or indigenous IT professionals. It adopts the similar organization structure as our other industry national associations such as the EASI (Economics Association), the Accountants Associations, MASI (Media Association) and Lawyers Association.
