The Girls in ICT Day 2021 will introduce a lot of significant changes.
Firstly, ITSSI President Alice Aote’e announced that 3 provinces will now join the celebrations. Western, Malaita and Makira will be joining the virtual event on Thursday 6th May.
Originally slated for April, the event was postponed due to the late arrival of robotic kits that will be used during the celebration.
This will be a significant departure from previous years as the organizing committee introduces practical hands-on sessions.
The executive is deploying support personnels to each provincial hub to help coordinate the online sessions and also assist in the robotic workshops.
Several schools in Honiara will be invited to Chung Wah and the #SolomonIslands government ICTS office to join the practical and online sessions while 7 will follow online from their own respective schools.
The President anticipates that if the event is successful it will be a wonderful opportunity to showcase the power of technology.
“We will see how technology transcends boundaries and elevates our collaborative efforts to newer heights.”
The Girls in ICT day is supported by DFAT, UNESCO, PICISOC and the government through the Ministry of Communication and Aviation.
This year’s event will play host to presenters from all over the world with technical support being provided remotely from Honiara and abroad. It will be a significant achievement for the association.
ITSSI/WITSI has been celebrating Girls in ICT day since 2018. It is an annual event which was initiated by ITU to encourage girls to take up science and technology as a career.
