The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Communications and Aviation, Alywin Danitofea, met with the newly elected president of ITSSI, Glen Buka, in a courtesy call initiated by the society after its recent AGM.
PS Danitofea was delighted to welcome the president and his vice president, Brian Mangi, at the Ministry of Communications and Aviation in Honiara on Thursday, 3rd April 2025.
The ITSSI president briefly spoke on 3 areas, focusing on the society’s recent election and his executive’s determination to review and refine its strategic plan as well as finalizing the work of the taskforce responsible for reviewing the society’s constitution.
Mr Buka also touched on the society’s commitment to work with all stakeholders to ensure that the society continues to play a pivotal role in policy and any legislative initiatives that require input from the society.
On this note, PS Danitofea was very complimentary on the society’s role in current discussions on cybersecurity as well as past government initiatives where the society’s representatives were able to provide invaluable support and industry insights to the ministry’s efforts.
Thirdly, the president focused on the future, in which he stated the society’s bold vision for a secretariat to manage the daily affairs of the society. He also highlighted that his executive is looking to shape the society’s future so that it can easily adapt to the fast-changing landscape in the industry.
“We ultimately want to establish a secretariat and possibly consider shifting into a more regulatory role in the future,” Buka said.
PS Danitofea acknowledged these talking points and then he spoke briefly on the ministry’s current work and updated the president on initiatives that will ultimately involve the society.
It was on this point that he strongly emphasized that ITSSI must build the trust and confidence of all stakeholders.
He urged the society to look into formalizing a governance structure that will lay the foundation for the society’s ambitions for the future.
“The society needs this governance structure to give government and other stakeholders confidence in the society’s ability to be a major player in ICT going forward.”
ITSSI is the society for ICT professionals in the country, established in 2015.
